This is the first time that I've noticed this. I'll have to try it out. :)

Skhilled

I've finally installed it and started looking at the admin. The 1st thing I've noticed is that the "Select Boards To Filter" section could use a "Select all" at the bottom of it for forums with a lot of boards like I have. To me, it would be easier to select them and deselect the ones I want to allow.

Chen Zhen

Done.

The new version is available in the download section.

Btw, since I have StopForumSpam installed, should I temporarily disable it to see how it works? SFS is blocking a lot of spammers/bots. If I let them have access so they can post I could better tell how well it's working.

Chen Zhen

That's up to you.
I don't use SFS but I do have my own spam mod running.

You can always do it temporary for a few days.. keep watch & if it fails then enable SFS.
The person I originally wrote it for stated that it is working fine for them.

Skhilled

That's what I though. So, I'll try it that way.

I didn't think the spam mod on here was updated and is why I went with SFS instead. I've always have preferred yours but, as I've said, I didn't think it was no longer updated.

Chen Zhen

No I dropped support for Spam Blocker long ago & went with another method.
The other mod also looks for links in posts from newbies & puts them in a pool of members that need to be verified.
If they're not verified then they can't post.

I like this mod better.. they get told they can't post a link.
If it's a bot that keeps trying then it plainly refuses posting the form for the topic.

Skhilled

Hmm, the only problen I see is that it doesn't stop them from registering like an anti-spam mod would. Unless I'm missing something,

Skhilled

Not sure why it has "null null null" after my post when all I added was 3 periods.

Chen Zhen

When did it do this?

For testing this mod or just posting in this thread?

Can you put what was posted that caused null null null in a quote so I can test it?

No that's not what the mod is for.. it filters posts for selected boards, topics and/or member groups.
The most likely scenario is your newbie group.
If they make it past registration then it will stop them from posting links.

some text...

OK, now it's not doing it. LOL

I'll try the mod without SFS. And btw, Docskillz is no longer alive. I got rid of the domain.

Chen Zhen

Yes, I tried to go to your site & it's gone.
Just the theme site now?

I have seen some odd behavior for the quick edit that seems to be a SMF issue in itself.
If you quick edit a post, type null 2 or 3 times then the [tab] button produces 5 words of "null".
It shows it with opacity (faded) indicating you can press tab for that outcome.
I don't see the point of it except maybe something left in there by mistake by the SMF devs.
This was tested on a fresh SMF install without any mods.

... I think there is a bug in SMF 2.1.4.

Skhilled

Yes, there's a lot of work to be done there. Jeff (Crip) has been estimated by the SMF team to have made 400+ themes over the years. And, he was paralyzed from the neck down! On the site's directories, you will find themes in folder under other themes and under other themes. It is expected since he was crippled. But I knew him for a long time and didn't realize how many themes there were/are. I've yet to scratch the surface of them all!!!

So, I just update the ones on his demos site and the ones people request, if I can find them. LOL
