Title: Snowflakes
Post by: Skhilled on December 23, 2024, 08:36:17 PM
I forgot all about this mod. However, you can hardly tell they are there because of the colors of the theme.

I went with something close to aqua blue.

They still look white to me. Maybe my glasses are broken. LOL Sorry, couldn't resist...

It's on random right now.. I just realized one of the snowflake types doesn't have a color setting & another one has it but it's ignored. 2 others have the working setting. I'll have to fix it up.. thanks for bringing this up.

Alright I fixed the mod.. all the snowflake types should be this color: #5cb5e1

Cool! But I don't see any snowflakes, atm.

Not even xmas lights?

I set it to disabled for posting a topic.
You won't see any effects when making a post which is purposeful.

Yes, I can see the lights but just not the snow as you've pointed out.

Just a thought... It would be nice if you could set the snowflakes to a certain color...especially if it is a dark or light theme. ;)

I thought we already talked about this?

You can set them to different colors.
Have you looked at the snowflakes admin before?

We probably did and I just forgot. Too many things going on which is why I'm not to fond of the holidays. LOL

Yes, I've looked at the admin.

If you opt the various types of snowflakes in the drop-down, it will show different settings for each type.

There are color settings for all 4 snowflake types (the recent release has a color fix for 2 of them).
One of the snowflake types is an actual image that can be uploaded (there are some included) & you can change it to a different effect such as floating leaves, flying bees, etc.
That image can be colored via css now in the latest release.

Ok, now I remember the various images that can be used. I've forgotten all about them since I haven't used the mod lately. LOL

Maybe, some of the types of imaes that can be used could be added to the topic...hmmm...

Is there a way to have the Diverse and Halloween choices behind the css wrapper? I would like falling leaves for my new autumn theme, currently under construction, which you can see here (https://79.143.183.101/SMF214/index.php)

I've tried changing the z-index but that doesn't work, it seems your mod is 'always on top'.

In the current stable version there isn't an option for this.
However, in the beta/rc download section I've included version 1.87-RC1 which you can try out.

I've added additional settings for the 2 Snowflakes effect types that you are targeting.
For the new parent container setting I suggest using #footerfix and check the Z-Index box.

This is assuming your custom theme is based off of the default theme & uses some of the initial class names.
If this is different then pick a container at the onset of the page after the body tag (experiment ~ trial & error).

If the class or id does not exist it will just use the default which is attaching itself to the body tag.

Has anyone ever told you you're brilliant  ;) it works just as I want it to, thank you. Have a look here (https://79.143.183.101/SMF214/index.php).

I'll change the leaf image but for the time being I'll leave it so it's easy to see

Houston we have a problem.

I didn't realise there had been an update for this mod since 1.83, so I wasn't aware of the latest issue until today.

In v1.86 and the latest v1.87RC1 when you use 'Diverse' and select leaf.png the colour does not change on the settings, the colour overrides the look of the leaf itself and the leaves are blue, it doesn't do this in v1.83.

I have tried all combinations of settings but on Diverse and any leaf is blue

That's why I said in the previous post
QuoteI'll change the leaf image but for the time being I'll leave it so it's easy to see
I thought it was an option to change the colours of the leaves

See attached

RC2 is now available.
I took away the class/id setting and just left the checkbox.
This time it simply moves the effect to the first child of the body and flips the z-indexes so the effect appears behind the other content. Perhaps I should have left it as it was because some themes might take the full width of the body.

I tested the leaf color & it works fine for me.
The hex color you've shown in your example image is blue so that is why you are getting blue leaves.

Try this: #008000

I changed it to a "nth child" setting.
For your environment this will be set to 1 which just means the snowflakes will be attached to the 1st child of the body which is #footerfix.

Thank you

The main reason for the report was that in v1.83 the leaves were the natural colour you created/supplied, the option for colour when a 'leaf' is chosen from the dropbox disappears when it's selected. Now the colour option remains and you need to add a colour for the leaves.

With your v1.83 the leaves look more natural.

I've taken another screenshot so you can see the definition of the leaves

Try out RC3 which lets you leave the color value empty for the diverse effect.
An empty value should let the script use the native, unaltered color of the image.

That's great Chen worked as I was hoping, thank you for the update

I'm going to add that z-index option to some of the other scripts plus a fix for the fireworks.

RC4 is now available which includes the same option for the first 6 effects.
They all work with the exception of the second effect (Flurry) which I will work on this week.
That one is giving me a bit of trouble to make it appear behind the forum container.
